1969 S2a Lightweight - 42FG80

Undergoing a complete ground up nut-and-bolt restoration to original specification. This very special vehicle has never been UK road registered having lived on a Scottish Estate since release from its military service. It also retains all its original major components and no doubt will be one of the last available matching-number vehicles of its type.

42 FG 80 was part of the second contract of Lightweights ordered. Production began in November 1968 with this example leaving the factory in early March 1969. It is a suffix 'A' vehicle which means it is one of the rarer 2a Lightweights identifiable by the headlamps in the grille panel. 1 of approximately 1500 ever made.

Unlike most ex-military Land Rovers you will find, this one has managed to retain it's original engine and gearbox along with both axles. This is very uncommon given the hard service life and work conditions it would have endured whilst in military ownership. It has also been in civilian ownership for 44 years now with all the owners seemingly leaving as found. So many Lightweigths were engine swapped or became off-road toys.

The bodywork will be taken back to bare metal, repaired as required and refinished in the Deep Bronze Green as it would have originally left the factory.

The original chassis has been shot blasted to bare metal, repaired as required, will be painted, cavity waxed and undersealed. The original bulkhead will be repaired as required and a new replacement vent panel will be fitted. All cappings and fittings will be freshly galvanised.

The original engine and matching-numbers driveline components will be fully overhaulled along with all steering and electrical components. Genuine, OEM and NOS components will be used wherever possible.

This vehicle will benefit from a brand new wiring loom, all new braking system and pipework, all new glass and seating.

This very special Lightweight will be available to purchase for £36,995.
