Fairey Overdrive - Fully Reconditioned - Outright Sale

This is a Fairey Overdrive unit to fit a Land Rover Series fitted with the original LT76 gearbox/transfer box behind the 2.25 petrol or diesel engine. It will not fit Stage 1 v8s for example. 

The sale will include:

• The main overdrive unit.
• Clutch sleeve which replaces the output gear on the main gearbox.
• Genuine linkage that has been blasted and powder coated satin black 
• New gasket and retaining ring for where the linkage passes through the gearbox tunnel into the cab
• New lock nut and tab washer for locking the clutch sleeve in place on the gearbox mainshaft
• New gasket for between the overdrive and your transfer case.
• New gasket for the top of the transfer box (you will need to remove this for better visibility/access when installing the clutch sleeve).
• Enough ROCAL ASP to coat the splines on the Overdrive mainshaft. The full tube in the photos is not included, enough in a separate tub will be included.
• A copy of the original fitting instructions

The unit has been stripped down to its individual components, cleaned, checked and then rebuilt with all new bearings, seals, circlips etc.

The bearing surfaces on re-used shafts were slightly polished but no scoring or pitting to the surfaces were found. All teeth on the re-used gears were found to be un-chipped and in very good condition - original tooling marks still visible on the Input gear! The Synchro cones were found to be in as-new condition. Highly likely this is a very low mileage example.

This Overdrive was then road tested and proved to be very very quiet. No audible difference between engaged or disengaged. No whining on overrun. It was fitted in our 2.5NAD equipped 109 and run up all the way to 60mph with no issues. This is honestly the best unit we have every had the fortune to offer for sale.

To fit this unit to your vehicle, beyond the usual sockets, spanners, torque wrench etc, you will need the special socket for the gearbox mainshaft nut. This socket is part number 600300 and has become readily available these days. You will also need a 2 inch hole cutter for where the linkage passes through the gearbox tunnel and 0.75 pint/400ml of GL-4 spec EP90. A copy of the original fitting instructions will be included to guide you through the process.
